Assessment of Scheduling Practices:American/Avalon conducted an assessment of current scheduling practices throughout FDOT in all disciplines. Two and three day interviews were conducted in each of the eight districts. A report has been prepared which summarizes the current scheduling practices by district and by discipline, identifies best practices and areas for improvements, and provides recommendations and implementation strategies.
Updating and expanding FDOT's Project Management Handbook:The entire handbook was updated with revisions and enhanced graphics. Also, five new chapters were added.
Project Management Training:Ten - 3 day training sessions were provided to FDOT staff through a specialty subconsultant. The training focused on basic project management skills.
Computer based training for the updated Project Management Handbook:American/Avalon and a specialty subconsultant developed computer based training (CBT) for each of the 27 chapters of the handbook. Each CBT session will be 15 to 40 minutes in length. American/Avalon was fully responsible for developing the training content and test questions. The training went live in late 2006.
Construction Engineering and Inspection Standard Scope and Fee Estimating Guidelines:American/Avalon assisted in the facilitation of development of a standard scope of services and fee estimating guidelines for CE&I services.
Project Management Workshop Training:American/Avalon is developing a three day hands-on project management training workshop geared specifically to FDOT Consultant Project Managers. The training covers all aspects of the project manager’s responsibilities. The training has been Alpha tested and is expected to be rolled out in early 2007.
Local Agency Program Manual:American/Avalon is editing the recently updated Local Agency Program (LAP) Manual to conform to the Governor’s Plain Language Initiative.
HOT and HOV Lane Research: American/Avalon is currently performing research for the Florida Department of Transportation on the state of practice for design of HOT and HOV lanes. We are conducting web searches for available information and contacting all 50 state departments of transportation as well as Puerto Rico and Washington, DC. A report will be prepared summarizing the state of practice.
