Escambia, Okaloosa, Gulf and Wakulla Counties, Florida

American/Avalon provided full engineering services for miscellaneous minor design assignments including sidewalk additions, roadway widening, milling, and resurfacing, safety improvements, 3R assignments, design surveys, pavement design, drainage, signing and pavement markings, traffic control plans, drainage improvements, signalization and pedestrian improvements, utility coordination, public involvement, ADA improvements and environmental permitting. Projects included under this contract are:

  • SR 369 (US 319) Intersection Improvements, Wakulla County: Design widening, milling, resurfacing and safety improvements. The roadway was widened at the intersections of Lonnie Raker Lane, East Ivan Road, and Whiddon Lake road to provide left turn lanes. An existing dual 24” cross drain was also extended to accommodate the additional roadway width.

  • SR 189 (Beal Parkway) Sidewalk Improvements, Okaloosa County: Sidewalk design, ADA upgrades and curb ramps for approximately 1.3 miles. Additional work included replacing existing drainage structure tops to be flush with the new sidewalk.

  • SR 71 Intersection Improvements, Gulf County: Design of milling, resurfacing, and pavement markings to accommodate a left turn lane onto East River Road and drainage improvements. The existing on-street parking was converted into the thru lanes to allow room for the left turn lane. Additional work included replacing the non-compliant curb ramps.

  • SR 296 (Michigan Ave), Escambia County: Signalization and pedestrian improvements, public involvement, ADA requirements and environmental permitting. This project included the design of a new signal at the intersection of SR 296 and Clifton Rd. with pedestrian accommodations. To incorporate the signal and pedestrian features, American/Avalon coordinated with FDOT for the closure of 1 driveway and the modification of a second driveway. Also included in the design were 2 midblock cross walks (one on each side of Clifton Rd.). An additional driveway had to be closed to accommodate one of the crossings.
