The Floresta Drive project consists of widening the existing 2-lane, undivided Floresta Drive to a 4-lane divided roadway, primarily within the existing 80-ft right-of-way but with some property acquisition at intersections for auxiliary lanes. SYNCHRO was used to analyze the alternatives, coordinate signals and provide signal timings at the interchange. The project also included minor lighting improvements and signalization upgrades. The location of the project was identified as being within the City of Port St Lucie, from the C-24 (Southbend) Canal to the Elkcam canal. Additionally, American/Avalon produced a 3-D animated fly through with narrative which effectively showed and explained the concepts of the proposed roadway improvements and changes including traffic circles, turn lanes, and a school crossing and produced a complete presentation that effectively communicated the full scope of the project by using slides, animation clips, and narrative. The specific objectives of this project include the following:

• Provide 4 travel lanes; 2 northbound and 2 southbound lanes.
  
  
• Improve operational characteristics of corridor using SYNCHRO and HCS.
  
  
• Reduce site specific crash reduction.
  
  
• Evaluate the existing strain poles and lighting system.
  
  
• Implement general safety modifications.
  
  
• Upgrade to current geometric design standards.
  
  
• Improve access management within the corridor.
  
  
• Resolve maintenance issues.
  
  
• Address ADA issues along the corridor.
  
  
• Improve intersection radii and drainage.
