Hernando County: Intersection Improvements, Spring Hill Drive at Mariner Boulevard
Hernando County, Florida

This project involved the widening of Spring Hill Drive and Mariner Boulevard to accommodate concrete traffic separators for access control and to allow dual left turns from all four legs of the intersection at one of the Counties busiest intersections.  A new traffic signal was installed at the intersection including street lighting and a traffic surveillance camera.  The replacement of the storm drain system included the installation of a 30” pipe 15 feet deep in order to drain surface water away form an existing pond that has had previous sinkhole activity.  Traffic was maintained in all directions during construction including the area on Mariner Boulevard just south of Spring Hill Drive that was reconstructed by raising the pavement elevation three feet to site distance and drivability.  This project required close coordination with homeowners, business owners, and public and private utility owners due to the complexities and confined work space caused by the narrow right-of-way, heavy traffic, and reconstruction of driveways.  Items of work included; erosion control, excavation, embankment, storm sewer, asphalt concrete base, curb and gutter, traffic separators, concrete driveways and sidewalks, traffic signals, lighting, traffic surveillance cameras, landscaping, signing, and pavement marking.
