The Town of Palm Beach experiences many traffic and parking challenges within its 16 mile long barrier island community. The year-around population is 10,000 and the seasonal population is 30,000. American/Avalon has been serving as the Miscellaneous Traffic Engineering and Parking Consultant for the Town of Palm Beach since 2002 working directly with the Planning, Zoning, the Building Department and Public Works. The contract is Task Order Assignment based, with ongoing random traffic engineering analysis, site plan reviews, and design task assignments to Town-wide traffic analysis, design, design-build implementation projects. This wide and diverse range of planning, traffic engineering and design, assists the town in meeting their transportation goals and expectations to maintain control of the public parking needs, pedestrian conflicts, traffic circulation and other public requests. Most recently American/Avalon has completed a “Town-wide Traffic and Parking Improvement Plan”. Through the duration of this high profile project, American/Avalon provided a significant improvement plan to address traffic and parking concerns expressed by residents and business owners. A strategic committee consisting of American/Avalon’s traffic engineers and planners as well as Town staff was established to meet and discuss coordination efforts between the Town’s commercial area businesses as well as members of the public, relative to all concerns reviewed under each individual audit. Special meetings were held with each commercial business association, the Chamber of Commerce, citizens and stake holders to obtain input. A comprehensive audit was conducted and recommendations for improvements were provided to town staff along with several presentations to town council and the public.
