Turnpike Mainline Widening, North of Johnson Street to Griffin Road

American/Avalon was selected to conduct this PD&E study and design that evaluated the alternatives for widening approximately 3.7 miles of the Florida Turnpike from six to eight-lanes. These improvements provide for the milling, resurfacing, and widening of the Turnpike, geometric revisions to the Griffin Road Interchange, revisions to signing and pavement markings, lighting, noise walls and drainage design. The design effort includes Sheridan Street Bridge over the Turnpike being replaced. Extensive utility coordination and Traffic Control Plans were required in areas of new bridge construction, drainage, and retaining wall placement. Roadways, Structure, Signing and Marking, Lighting, Landscaping plans were prepared. Permits were obtained from the South Florida Water Management District and Army Corps of Engineers.
