Ambassador Bridge: Detroit River Crossing
Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan
Planning, permitting and preliminary design of this international crossing over the Detroit River between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. The six-lane facility is entirely elevated and extends over 6000 feet (1828.8 m) connecting to the existing customs plazas in each country. Bridge types taken to conceptual design level included a suspension structure to match the existing bridge, a cable stayed bridge to span the 2200 feet (670.6 m) between supports across the river and a tunnel. The cable stayed structure has been selected and the Draft Environmental Assessment completed in the United States and Canada. The Final Environmental Assessments are expected to be completed by the end of 2007 and early 2008.
