City of Port St. Lucie:
Canal Park Boat Launch Improvements
St. Lucie County, Florida
American worked with the City of Port St. Lucie to develop plans for a boat ramp park on the C-24 Canal to address the high demand for boat ramp facilities in the City. American provided the site design, public involvement, traffic engineering, landscape architecture, stormwater design and permitting for the Canal Park boat launch improvements. The design and management of this project was led by American’s landscape architect. Park improvements include four boat ramp lanes, queuing docks, fishing pier, picnic shelters, fish cleaning station, parking, bathrooms, lighting and a central wet detention pond for the eignt-acre site. Access to the site is provided with an extension of an existing city street. The public involvement process resulted in redesign for preservation of significant trees and more than an acre of on site wetlands. Coordination with both parks and recreation and engineering personnel resulted in additional contiguous wetland preservation on an adjacent drainage right-of-way, providing additional buffer for residents, while reducing localized flooding by draining off site runoff through the park stormwater system.
