Turnpike Mainline Widening, north of Johnson St. to Griffin Road, Broward County, Florida. American was selected to conduct this PD&E study to evaluate the alternatives for widening approximately 3.7 miles of the Florida Turnpike from six to eight lanes, and then design and permit the preferred alternative. Environmental tasks included reviewing technical reports such as the Wetland Evaluation Report, Endangered Species Biological Assessment, and the Water Quality Impact Evaluation. Roadway, structure, signing, marking, lighting, and landscaping plans were prepared. Permits were obtained from the South Florida Water Management District, Broward County and USACOE. This project permitted drainage improvements including providing positive discharge three miles of existing zero discharge section. American developed the permitting and modeling approach to account for historical discharge that was blocked by development that was readily accepted by SFWMD.
