FDOT District 7:
Gandy Boulevard (SR 600) Design
East of the Gandy Bridge to Dale Mabry Highway
Hillsborough County, Florida
The goal of this roadway design project was to improve 2.4 miles of the Gandy Boulevard corridor by converting the arterial roadway from a five-lane undivided section to a four-lane divided roadway with enhanced aesthetics and landscaping features. Other improvements included installation of a raised median, additional turn lanes, upgraded signals, decorative lighting, pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction, addition of a shared-use path, and upgrade of the closed drainage system. The project required a detailed public involvement program, including creation of an Aesthetics Advisory Committee, and a formal public hearing. The engineering team at American produced the following plans for this project: signing and pavement markings, signalization, lighting, drainage and traffic control.
