This project provides for widening of I-75 from just north of SR 50 to north of the Hernando/Sumter County Line. The design of the project accounts for both interim and ultimate improvement needs along I-75. The interim improvements include the milling and resurfacing of the existing roadway and adding one lane in each direction to the inside, while the ultimate improvements include an ultimate eight-lane typical section with additional widening to the outside. Plans are being prepared and carried to the Phase II (60%) submittal level to establish design parameters such as Right-of-Way requirements, permitting requirements and bridge costs for the widening of the bridges on I-75 over Croom Rital Road and over the Withlacoochee River. The project includes the addition of Stormwater Management Facilities, which will be designed and permitted to provide treatment and attenuation volume for future expansion to the ultimate 10-lane typical section. The permitting of this project will be coordinated extensively with the Florida Department of Agriculture/Division of Forestry for using natural depressional areas within the Withlacoochee National Forest which surrounds this project.
