Lincoln Renewable Energy: Solar Siting Projects

Lincoln Renewable Energy, LLC

American has and continues to provide Lincoln Renewable Energy, LLC (Lincoln) Geographic Information System (GIS) services due to our exceptional high quality work and responsiveness. Lincoln utilizes American’s GIS services for “prospecting” purposes to identify potentially viable locations for future solar installations. American provides: data management, data manipulation, data analysis and cartographic representations for multiple States of interest.

American worked with Lincoln Project Managers to help determine areas, with the direct solar intensity and minimal environmental constraints, which could be classified as potentially profitable for the placement of solar panels. American coordinated the acquisition of GIS related parcel information from various counties in New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland. The acquired parcel information was used by Lincoln Management for acquisition purposes (parcel lease or parcel purchase) as well as solar panel system preliminary design.

Spatial analysis was performed on a variety of input criteria to determine areas of large scale (greater than 20 acres) parcel boundaries and proximity to transmission lines and substations to reduce grid connection costs. In identifying potentially viable areas, American streamlined the conversion of available solar information (NREL 1998 – 2005) to a “user friendly” ESRI Grid format. This format was used in conjunction with additional environmental constraints (i.e. percent slope, flood zones, endangered species habitat, wetlands, etc) for parcel acquisition and solar panel placement/interconnection.

American used ESRI’s ArcGIS suite of software during this project.
