Second and Third Avenue North Improvements:
Main Street to Fourth Street North

American was chosen to evaluate existing drainage, brick and asphalt pavement rehabilitation, utilities, and parking in a six block area of commercial and residential streets in downtown Safety Harbor. The final improvements included: reconstruction of the drainage system to eliminate localized flooding, rebuilding the brick pavement and granite curb, reconstructing asphalt pavement, addition of sidewalks, landscaping and replacement of city’s water system, gravity sewer system, and sewer force mains within the project limits. During the planning and design, special consideration was given to avoid impacts to grandfather oak trees adjacent to the construction areas. Additional on street angle parking was provided near Main Street while parking away from Main Street was removed to provide a sidewalk and enhancements for pedestrians. Decorative lighting was provided. Overhead utility lines were buried as part of the project which required extensive utility coordination.
