Tunnel Hill Historic Park
Whitfield County, Georgia
The Tunnel Hill Historic Park is approximately 85 acres in size. The park is located 6.5 miles northwest of Dalton, adjacent to the Western and Atlantic Railroad Tunnel in Tunnel Hill, Georgia. Acquired by Whitfield County approximately four years ago, the entire park area is rich in cultural history. As part of the deed to the park land, restrictions on the uses of the park were put in place. These restrictions limit the uses to passive recreation such as pedestrian trails and historical reenactments. Whitfield County is now proposing to create three walking trails, totaling 1.8 miles, within the park. The trails will consist of compacted limestone or other pervious fine aggregate and will be Americans with Disabilities (ADA) accessible. This contract includes drainage design, structural design, wetland delineation, permitting and coordination with utilities and various agencies.
