American thus far has provided preliminary streetscape engineering for this project including beautification of the northern end of downtown Punta Gorda with enhanced pedestrian facilities, and restoration of West Retta Esplanade as a continuous riverfront street as envisioned by the original city layout.
The streetscape improvements include signalized intersections at both north and south US 41, and the addition of signalized pedestrian crosswalks. These additions will enhance the movement of traffic through downtown, and be safer for vehicles and pedestrians. Decorative uprights are proposed for the signalized intersections. The mast arm and uprights would be black in color and include illuminated street name signs hung from the uprights to maintain the decor in downtown Punta Gorda.
